Wondering what architecture and design events are happening around New York City? Bustler rounded up a snappy list of event recommendations worth checking out. This week’s picks include book discussions for “The Moderns: Midcentury American Graphic Design” and “Richard Filipowski: Art and Design Beyond the Bauhaus”, the Facades+ NYC conference, and the new interactive exhibition “The Senses: Design Beyond Vision” at Cooper Hewitt. Read on for our latest weekly event recommendations.

Steve Heller and Greg D’Onofrio, “The Moderns” | April 17

Steve Heller and Greg D’Onofiro will discuss their latest book, “The Moderns”, with special guest moderator Anne Quito, design writer for Quartz. “The Moderns: Midcentury American Graphic Design” is the first comprehensive survey to examine the impact and widespread practice of the post-Bauhaus-influenced design style and method through the work of some of its most avid adherents and rebels.

Facades+ NYC | April 19

Facades+ unites top professionals from the worlds of design, fabrication, and construction to consider how high performance envelopes contribute to and are shaped by NYC’s unique architectural landscape. The one-day conference includes keynotes Francine Houben and Ian Ritchie, and workshops led by industry-leading designers, engineers, and specialists.

Beyond the Bauhaus: Richard Filipowski, Art & Design | April 19

Richard Filipowski, a major figure bridging the Bauhaus and American midcentury modernism, finally gets his due! Join Hattula Moholy-Nagy, Marisa Bartolucci, Larry Weinberg, Richard Dattner, and Glenn Gissler in a lively discussion about Filipowski’s life as an artist, designer, and teacher. A reception will follow the conversation. Marisa Bartolucci will sign her new book, Richard Filipowski: Art & Design Beyond the Bauhaus

The Senses: Design Beyond Vision | Open now until October 28

This new exhibition invites visitors to encounter design with all their senses through several interactive installations, created in collaboration with contemporary designers, from a furry wall with digital sensors that play music to a scent commission by Christopher Brosius inspired by winter.
